Slayers use Nichirin Swords to fight against and have weaker bodies than Demons. To compensate for this, they can learn Breathing Techniques to empower themselves at a superhuman rate, letting them fight at the strength of a Demon. Later on, when the requirement are met, you are able to turn yourself into a Hybrid, giving you the body of a Demon but still utilizing the Breathing Styles of the Slayers. Slayers need to buy and eat food to sate their hunger and they regenerate HP at half the rate of a Demon.
After a Slayer completes Final Selection, they will become a member of the Slayer Corps and be given a Kasugai Crow for Missions, along with being able to craft specialized Nichirin Swords to increase their damage output at Jako, the Blacksmith.
Certain Families, such as Tomioka or Rengoku, are significantly more beneficial to use as a Slayer, due to the fact that what they buff is primarily targeting something that a Demon is unable to use or acquire.
